How do I connect one VCR and one DVD-VCR combo to one old tv?
What kind of cables do I need? I don't want to copy tapes I just want to be able to use both machines (usually separately)--i.e., record and play tapes on the original VCR and use the VCR/DVD player to watch DVDs (not at the same time). The DVD player does not need to be connected to the cable (no box), does it? Right now, I am unplugging the coax and cable input from one machine to the other to use whichever. The TV is probably 15 or more years old. The DVD-VCR combo was supposed to replace the VCR but the playback on it is terrible. I bought it "reconditoned" and waited too long to set it up and I couldn't return it. I tried adjusting tracking manually (with the instructions they gave), but no luck so if someone has a solution for that, that would help, too. As you can tell, I am pretty much technically-challenged so I need simple explanations I can understand. Thanks.
Buy what's called a "Two-way splitter" (Less than $10)
Cable TV Coax from Wall to VCR IN
Seperate coax from VCR OUT To Splitter IN
Seperate coax from COMBO OUT to Splitter IN
Seperate Coax From Splitter OUT to TV IN
That should allow you to record from the old and just watch movies with the new. Total cost, probably around $30
